KCOS has launched its first ever educational campaign “PBS Smart” to raise $40,000 by June 10 to highlight and raise awareness of the effectiveness and necessity of PBS KIDS programming for the children and adults of the Southwest.
General Manager Emily Loya says part of raising funds for the station involves informing the viewer how their donation keeps her station on the air.
“Unfortunately too many people think PBS is part of a cable or satellite television package, when in fact it is very much membership driven,” Loya says,
She adds, “In recent years membership, has declined to the point where it is jeopardizing the station’s long-term viability…we are trying very hard to turn that around and re-engage the community. “
To that end, Loya, Board members and staff have set up their own personal fundraising pages.
Loya says, “My personal goal is at least $1000 by Friday, June 10th and I’m at $495 right now (as of Tuesday)” Viewers’ support will go a long way toward the goal of $40k by June 10th.
Those supporters who donate $100 or more, will receive a PBS Nerd T-shirt.
