El Paso’s MCAD: Enjoy the Holidays with a Museum Visit

The El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department invites residents to visit the museums this holiday season andcombat winter break boredom with free family-friendly exhibits.

The El Paso Museum of Art has several free exhibits including Hermosas Huesos, a dynamic exhibition inspired by the prints of Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada.

Also on display are James Drake: Anatomy of Drawing and Space (Brain Trash), which is accompanied by students’ art inspired by his work, and Eldridge Hardie: Art of a Life in Sport featuring more than 20 paintings depicting the outdoors sportsman lifestyle.

The El Paso Museum of History is hosting free family programs during the winter break.

  • Saturday, December 24, 11 a.m. – History of poinsettia followed by arts and crafts workshop
  • Thursday, December 29, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. – Explore your family tree through writing and making a time capsule
  • Thursday, January 5, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. – Explore the beginnings of photography to cinema through crafts

On Saturdays, the El Paso Museum of Archaeology has free guided tours from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. At 11 a.m., there are free archery and Atl-Atl demonstrations. The trails around the museum will also be open for family hikes.

The current exhibit on display is Quanah Parker: One Man, Two Worlds, which features rarely seen photos. Quanah Parker was a Comanche/English American war leader and a dominant figure in the Red River War.

For more information, visit the El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department website or call them at (915) 212-0300.
