El Paso’s Own Food City Offering ‘Shutdown Package’ to Furloughed Federal Workers.

Via a social media post on Thursday, officials with the local supermarket brand Food City announced a unique way to help those El Pasoans hit by the government shutdown.

Food City will be offering a ‘Shutdown Package’ from January 24 through the 27 to federal workers who present their ID to a manager at any of their locations. In return, they’ll be getting a package of staple food items to help them through this difficult time.

Below is their social media post:

Thousands of families in El Paso are being affected by the government shutdown. Here at Food City, we’ve gathered our management team to discuss how we can help the families affected by the shutdown with items that make the biggest impact.

In order to help as many families as possible, we have a $5 Shutdown Package- 5 items for a total of $5, a price well below our cost.

All furloughed federal government employees can visit any Food City location January 24-27, 2019, and receive a voucher by presenting their federal I.D. to a store manager. The voucher entitles federal employees to the following package of items:

-1 Loaf Shurfine White Sandwich Bread: 99¢

-18 Count Large Eggs: $2.99
-Shurfine Long Grain Rice, 28 oz.: $1.29
