Beginning next week, area landlords seeking to help their tenants avoid eviction because of economic hardships brought on by COVID-19 can visit a new website as part of the EP Rent Help Program.
On July 22, landlords can visit EPRentHelp.org to register their properties to participate in the EP Rent Help Program.
“This is the first formal step landlords can take to participate in the program which will grant millions of dollars in federal CARES Act funding to landlords within the City of El Paso,” program officials shared Friday.
Additional information is available now on the website, however the program is not yet accepting applications.
Program officials share that the program will not be administered on a first-come, first-first serve basis; rather the partnership will seek to distribute the funds to those who are in the greatest need.
“Landlords must apply on behalf of their tenants; tenants will be required to provide information to their landlords to complete the application,” officials shared.
Officials add that while this program is limited to tenants living in the City of El Paso, program officials will not ask about immigration status nor will it be used in making decisions about who receives funding awards.
A fund of the Paso del Norte Community Foundation, Under One Roof is a charitable organization of the El Paso Apartment Association established to provide financial and other support to residents of El Paso County who have been harmed by disasters such as fire, flood or pandemic, and support the professional development of owners, managers and staff of rental properties.
Recently, the City of El Paso selected a collaborative proposal from the PDN Community Foundation and Under One Roof to administer funding for rental assistance to serve thousands of El Pasoans who are facing the prospect of losing their homes due to the health and economic crisis caused by COVID-19.
