EPCC Celebrates Grandparents Day Saturday

El Paso Community College (EPCC) will hold its 12 th Annual Grandparents Day Celebration from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 10 th at the EPCC Administrative Services Center (9050 Viscount, Building A.)

Health screenings will precede the event starting at 8:00 a.m. EPCC Officials say, “Help us demonstrate that El Paso honors and respects them and that we love to celebrate with our grandparents.”

This year’s event is themed The Power of Health and is co-sponsored by the EPCC Senior Adult Program, The Hospitals of Providence and the City’s Parks and Recreation Department.

Visit with over 20 service providers, join in games, enjoy the Border Walk Line Dancers, Sacramento Seniors Folklorico, El Paso Sun Desert Dancers, liven it up with Zumba and tone it down with Tai Chi plus many other performances. The Grandparents Day Celebration is free and open to the public.

By 2021, there will be 12 million retired grandparents fully engaged in life, in schools, sharing their life experiences with their grandchildren. Our community benefits from their volunteer contributions, and having active, healthy, mentally sharp grandmas and grandpas.

National Grandparents Day is observed on the Sunday after Labor Day. Its purpose is threefold; to honor grandparents for their wisdom and experience; to allow grandparents an opportunity to show their love to their children’s kids; and to make children aware of the great source of knowledge, strength and guidance that can be gained from the over 150,000 age sixty plus seniors in El Paso County.
