EPCC Cross Country Men’s Team Takes 1st, Women 2nd; Tejanos eyeing upcoming regionals

Hobbs, NM – El Paso Community College (EPCC) men finished 1st and women finished 2nd at their final meet of the 2021 season at the New Mexico Junior College Cross Country Invitational in Hobbs, New Mexico. 

The Tejanos were led by Adams Biwott who finished 1st with a time of 24:23 in the 8K race. Also finishing in the top 5 were Kelvin Chiku and Michael Abeyta.

The Tejanas were led by Faith Nyathi who finished 1st with a time of 18:04 in the 5K race. She finished more than 1 minute and 20 seconds ahead of her closest competitor.

Nyathi was recently named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division 1 Female Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Teammates Jayleen Guerrero and Karyme Garcia finished in the top 5.

Next up, the teams return to Hobbs, New Mexico for the NJCAA Region V Championship on October 30, 2021. Then on November 13, they travel to Richmond, Virginia for the NJCAA Division 1 National Championships.
