EPCC remembers English Professor Hector Padilla
El Paso Community College staff and students are mourning the loss of Valle Verde Campus English Professor, Hector L. Padilla.
According to EPCC officials, Padilla unexpectedly died on Saturday, July 25, 2020.
Padilla was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran who began working at EPCC in the 1980s as part of a workforce grant to train students while they completed their GEDs. He became a member of the English discipline in 1989, serving as the coordinator at the Rio Grande Campus.
“Hector had a dedicated following among students, drawn to his passion as an instructor and his desire to help others,” EPCC officials shared. “[and] he always could be found in his office advising and working with his students.”
Outside of the College, Padilla trained service dogs and he often could be found walking with his beloved companion Mona.
“He was a valued mentor and friend to so many at EPCC. He will be deeply missed,” EPCC officials added.
