EPCC Tejano Gideon Cheplak named National Athlete of the Week

Charlotte, North Carolina— After leading the El Paso Community College (EPCC) Men’s Cross Country Team to its 2nd straight Region V Championship, Tejano Gideon Cheplak was named the Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

On October 26, Cheplak won the Region V men’s race in Snyder, Texas. The Tejanos swept the top four positions on their way to the regional championship. Gideon has won the last four races in which he has competed.

Cheplak will lead the Tejanos next at the NJCAA National Championship on November 9 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The season culminates with the Half Marathon Championships on November 23 at Ascarate Park in El Paso.

It is the mission of the NJCAA to promote two-year college athletics by fostering a national program of athletic participation in an environment that supports equitable opportunities consistent with the educational objectives of member colleges.
