EPCC Theater presents regional premiere of musical ‘Closer Than Ever’

The El Paso Community College (EPCC) Theater Ensemble will offer performances of Maltby & Shire’s Closer Than Ever throughout June and July 2019.

Closer Than Ever is a nonstop exploration of everyday struggles in the “modern world.” Topics ranging from unrequited adoration to aging to Muzak.

“Each song is a unique story told by a new character, taking audiences, not only into the songbook of Mr. Maltby and Mr. Shire, but into the minds of the individuals facing these completely relatable challenges,” EPCC officials shared via a news release.

Closer than Ever is a musical revue in two acts with lyrics by Richard Maltby Jr. and music by David Shire Schwartz.

Maltby and Shire were honored with a music-and-lyrics Outer Critics Circle Award for Closer than Ever and are the authors of well-regarded, fan-favorite shows like Big and Baby.

This production is directed by Greg Thompson.

Ticket prices are:

  • General Admission-$15
  • EPCC students, staff and faculty, children, military and seniors -$8

Performances will be held June 27, 28, 29 and July 5 and 6 at 8:00 p.m. and June 30, July 6 and 7 at 2:00 p.m. The EPCC Theater Ensemble performs at the EPCC Transmountain Campus Forum Theater, 9570 Gateway North.

Tickets are available at the door, cash only. The box office opens two hours before each performance.  For theater information, call (915) 831-5147.
