The El Paso Fire Department is accepting applications for Public Safety Communicator Trainees until December 6, 2018.
Public Safety Communicators process emergency and non-emergency telephone calls and dispatch, monitor, and coordinate activities of emergency personnel (police, fire and medical) using a multi-channel radio system and a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and two years of general work experience, with at least one year involving public contact.
EPFD offials say Spanish is not required for hiring, but may be a requirement depending on which function is assigned. Non-Spanish speakers are encouraged to apply.
Selected candidates will go through a paid, six-month training period earning $14.65 an hour. Upon completion of the training period, trainees will be promoted to Public Safety Communicator, starting at $34,537 annually.
