EPISD Education Foundation awards $50k+ Scholarships to Class of 2021 graduates

The EPISD Education Foundation and its partner funders awarded more than $50,000 in scholarships to the class of 2021.

This year’s batch of scholars are headed to universities across the country including Yale, Harvard, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Texas at El Paso.

Below are the winners of the $1,000 EPISD Education Foundation Scholarship:

  • Andress High – Diego Aguirre
  • Austin High – Luizinho Felipe
  • Bowie High – Evelyn Sandoval
  • Burges High – Annabella Mireles, Arik Enriquez and Mia Cadena
  • Chapin High – Andres Iglesias, Itzkah Estrella, Cesar Meza and Jaiden Walker
  • College, Career Technology Academy – Erica Reyes
  • Coronado High – Dena Antowan and Srilakshmi Muthyala
  • El Paso High – Gilberto Orozco, Hannah Payan, Ian Perez, Julianna Ortega, Manuel Olivas, Mariana Torres, Noemi Melendez, Sigrid Martinez, Teresa Salloum and Xenia Otero
  • Franklin High – Eleanor Schoenbrun, Gladys Reveles, Jadynne Sandhu, Kameelah Freeman and Zaina Alsarraj
  • Irvin High – Jimena Esqueda and Ernesto Torres
  • Jefferson High – Sasha Morales
  • Silva Magnet – Billy Ray Briceno
  • TMECHS – Jasmine Lupo

The EPISD Education Foundation’s partner scholars awarded the following awards to the Class of 2021 this year:

  • Council of PTA Scholars: Srilakshmi Muthyalam and Dena Antowan ($500 each), Coronado High; Eleanor Schoenbrun ($500) and Jadynne Sandhu ($250), Franklin High; David Gonzalez ($500), Burges High; and Sigrid Martinez ($250), El Paso High.
  • Amalia Muro Scholarship for $1,000: Matthew Lujan, Burges High.
  • Chris Baca Memorial Scholarship, presented by the El Paso Executive Women Lion’s Club: Mia Cadena ($1,500), Benjamin Diaz ($500) and Barry Cummings ($500), Burges High.
  • Raul Moriel Memorial Scholarship for $5,000: Josep Ferret, El Paso High.
  • Coach Lou Robustelli Memorial Scholarship for $1,000: Benjamin Diaz, Burges
  • Ann Yerby Memorial Scholarship for $1,000: David Gonzalez, Burges.
  • Genevieve Gonzalez Scholarship for $1,000: Teresa Salloum, El Paso High.
  • Irma G. Cortez Memorial Scholarship for $500: Shanty Vera and Oscar Murillo, Irvin High.
  • Archie Duran Memorial Scholarship for $1,000: Emily Leon, Irvin High; Alejandra Lomas, Jefferson High; Vivyanna Ochoa, Silva Health Magnet.
  • Irvin Alumni Association Scholarships: Emily Leon and Claire Kang, Irvin High.
  • Coach Edmundo Torres Memorial Scholarship for $1,000: Jalen Martin, Irvin High.
  • Angel’s Buddies Scholarships for $500: Cynthia Tarin and Juan Carlos Camacho, Bowie High.

EPISD officials also offered a special thanks to El Paso Electric for funding $15,000 in scholarships this year.
