EPISD Education Foundation launches its Employee Giving Campaign

The EPISD Education Foundation launched its 2016-17 Employee Giving Campaign on Friday, September 30, to help raise funds for scholarships for graduating seniors and Classroom Impact Grants for teachers.

Employees can make a contribution through payroll deduction or make a one-time donation through myepisd.org through Oct. 31. The deductions will begin with the Nov. 30 paycheck.

Last year, employees contributed $25,000 to the EPISD Foundation through Employee Giving — a $7,000 increase from 2014. The additional funds combined with the contributions from the business community, Bowl for Excellence and the EPISD 2020 Luncheon allowed the foundation to give $115,000 back to EPISD this year.

“We are so grateful for the overwhelming support of our campuses and Central Office staff,” said Foundation President Russell Wiggs. “Last year’s campaign marks the largest amount of contributions by EPISD employees. It shows that our teachers and staff believe in the work we do. We hope the momentum continues and we can provide more funding back to our teachers and students.”

news2_2538_mThe $115,000 includes $77,000 in scholarships to the Class of 2016, $28,000 to teachers for Classroom Impact Grants and an additional $10,000 STEM grant for a project at Irvin High School.

The foundation is in the midst of surprising teachers with grant awards and will continue to make awards through early October. Teachers can apply for grants in the spring for the 2017-18 school year.

“I could not do the innovative projects, that all teachers want to do, in my classroom with out the Classroom Impact Grants given out by the EPISD Educational Foundation,” said Lisa Schoenbrun, a Western Hills Elementary teacher who has received multiple grants. “The Employee Giving Campaign is what makes all of our students successful through grants and scholarships. It simple and easy to make a contribution and every dollar impacts our students directly.”

A contest to help generate excitement about campaign will award campuses with the highest percentage of contributions. Campuses must donate a minimum of $1,500 to be eligible.

– First Prize: $1,500 in credit for Adventures in Learning educational field trips or Team Quest for your campus.

– Second Prize: Each participating employee will receive a family 4-pack of one-day admissions to Wet-N-Wild sponsored by Wet-N-Wild.

– Third Prize: A pizza party sponsored by Peter Piper Pizza.
