EPISD Students to Showcase Speaking Abilities at TED Event Thursday

Students from throughout the District will come together this week to give empowering and inspirational presentations in the first ever EPISD TED Ed event — a symposium of ideas based on the popular TED Talks conferences and videos.

A total of 22 students in grades third to 12th will present during the EPISD TED Ed event. The event is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, at the Center for Career and Technology Auditorium, 1170 N. Walnut St.

The event is open to the public. Topics being discussed include: art, body shaming, women’s rights, PTSD, world peace, child obesity and more.

A panel of judges will select one of the student presentations and submit it for consideration at the TEDx ElPaso event scheduled for the fall.

Nineteen EPISD campuses this year began TED Ed Clubs and students have been meeting throughout the year to pick topics, create presentations and practice their speaking skills.

This event is the culmination of the first year of work for these clubs.
