The Canutillo Independent School District Board of Trustees on Wednesday evening approved the appointment of longtime district administrator Andrea Esparza as the next principal of Canutillo Elementary School. She will begin her tenure on Jan. 3 after the winter break.
Esparza has 20 years of experience in public education and has served children in the Canutillo and El Paso independent school districts. She currently serves as the Dean of Students at Northwest Early College High School.
“Ms. Esparza brings with her a wealth of experience that will help the students and staff at Canutillo Elementary continue the amazing work that led them to earn an A rating this year,” said Superintendent Dr. Pedro Galaviz. “I am confident that she will make a wonderful transition at CES and that the community will benefit from her leadership.”
She previously served as interim principal at Bill Childress Elementary School as well as assistant principal at both Alderete and Canutillo middle schools. Before coming to Canutillo, she worked as a testing coordinator at Morehead Middle School in EPISD, as well as a physical education and health teacher and coach at both Morehead and Coronado High School.
Esparza has a bachelor’s in kinesiology with a minor in education from the University of Texas at El Paso and a master’s in education administration also from UTEP.
