Last month, Fabens High School hosted the Area 1-4A TACS Academic Challenge.
The TACS Academic contains teams made up of three students: a Level I student, a Level II student, and a Level III student. Each contestant has 15 seconds to answer the questions posed to them according to their level.
After the Level I students answered their five questions the Level II students answered five questions followed by the Level III. There were sixty questions in all and the points were totaled together to announce the winners.
Fabens Q placed 3rd and won a $300 scholarship, these students were: Matthew Hernandez, Yadhira Parra and Eric Hernandez. Fabens U placed 2nd and won a $450 scholarship, these students were: Jacob Calleros, Victoria Martinez and Carmen Morales.
The winners of the Area 1-4A TACS Academic Challenge and the winners of a $750 scholarship were Roberto Rodriguez, Briana Tarango and Leslie Loya.
District officials say this was the first time Fabens High School hosted a TACS Academic Area Meet and third time competing, but plans to continue doing so in the future.
All of these students are well deserving of their scholarships and their opportunities to compete at state. The questions these students tackled were ones that ranged from the TEKS covered in all 4 years of their high school core classes.
The top three teams qualified for the State TACS competition which will be held at the campus of Mary Hardin-Baylor University in Belton, Texas on February 27, 2022.
