After Fatal Injury on Ride at Fair, El Paso Bishop Issues Moratorium on Mechanical Rides at Church Events

The Diocese of El Paso has received results from the preliminary investigation into the accident that took place on April 29 at St. Thomas Aquinas parish. Those results show the ride, The Sizzler, had no observable mechanical defects.

The operator of the ride has been cooperating with the investigation which is still ongoing.

In light of the events that have taken place, and until the accident investigation is completed, Bishop Mark Seitz has ordered a temporary moratorium on the use of all mechanical rides at any church function.

The moratorium will remain in effect until further notice.

The Diocese continues to grieve the loss of 16-year-old Samantha Aguilar. We pray for her, her family and the other two girls who were with Samantha that night.
