CEDAR RAPIDS, Ia – Tuesday’s final round at the Golfweek Conference Challenge – where the UTEP men’s golf team was set to play – was cancelled due to heavy rainfall at the Cedar Rapids Country Club.
It’s the second time in as many tournaments this season 18 holes were eliminated due to rain. UTEP played in a pair of rounds (36 holes) at the Lone Star Invitational Sept. 10-11.
The Miners (301-290—591) will finish in 13th, while Arkansas State (277-276—553) will claim the team title.
Aaron Terrazas (71-69—140) payed outstanding and shot a 4-under par during the shortened two-day event. The senior fired a 3-under par after eagling his final hole on Monday. Terrazas also tallied four birdies during the second round and will finish the tournament tied for fifth in his first action of the season.
Also, performing well on day two was Santiago Castilla (81-69—150). The sophomore shot a 9-over-par 72 on Sunday, but rebounded with a 3-under-par performance on Monday to finish tied for 56th.
Arkansas State’s Julien Sale (69-67—136), who fired an 8-under, won the individual field.
The Miners will travel to Albuquerque, to compete at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate Sept. 28-29 at the par-72, 7,555-yard UNM Championship Golf Course.
