FirstLight Federal Credit Union officials announced its Inaugural FirstLight Community Foundation Golf Classic to raise scholarship funds for local students in El Paso, Fort Bliss, and Las Cruces communities.
Karl Murphy, President/CEO of FirstLight Federal Credit Union, shared “the cost of continuing education continues to rise for our area students and their families. We do our best to raise awareness and funds to assist more students achieve their dreams.”
“We are thankful for the tremendous community and industry support” stated Anthony T. Walker, SVP of Marketing & Community Impact. “This fundraiser is more than a golf tournament; it is truly an event.”
The Foundation, which originated in 2015 to focus on financial wellness, provides annual scholarships to assist graduating seniors with their educational journeys.
In 2021, the not-for-profit received over 430 application submissions—a 357% increase over prior year. Nineteen scholarships were awarded to area students who will be attending universities around the country, from UTEP and NMSU to Harvard and Yale.
Not only will the fundraiser include a day of golfing, but feature entertainment, food, and the opportunity to meet current scholarship recipients.
