Five UTEP Tennis Athletes Earn ITA Scholar-Athlete Status
The UTEP women’s tennis team was named an ITA All-Academic team and had five players honored as ITA Scholar Athletes, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Thursday.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any program that fashions a team grade point average of 3.20 or above. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must have a grade point average of at least 3.50, be a varsity letter winner and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
The Miners earned team recognition by having a cumulative team grade point average of 3.53 on the year and student-athletes, Raven Bennett, Bethan Hayward, Vivienne Kulicke, Duda Santos and Lois Wagenvoort held a grade point average of 3.50 for the current academic year to secure the Scholar Athlete title.
Earlier this year, the entire eight-member team was placed on the 2016 Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and claimed five C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medals. The squad was also awarded the Athletic Director’s Academic Award for its outstanding GPA at the 42nd annual Dinner with the Miners last month.
