Florida Guard leaves their mark on Fort Bliss

Fort Bliss has a long history of commemorating the units that come through their gates with stone markers decorated by the units headed down range.

Sgt. Hannah McMinn, an Army human intelligence collector supporting the 1st Battalion, 124th Infantry Regiment as their unit security clearance officer accepted the task of ensuring that her regiment is remembered.

“I’ve always loved art and to be able to contribute in this way for the battalion, is awesome,” said McMinn. “I feel like it is a way that I can contribute to the memories and the hard work that everyone is doing.”

McMinn has been working on the project for about a week during her off hours in the evening. While the project isn’t complete, it is a work in progress that she feels will be finished before they move on to their next destination. McMinn has spearheaded the project, however she has had help from fellow Soldiers.

“Soldiers have helped me and it has opened the door for camaraderie,” said McMinn. “Sometimes they will pick up a brush and help and sometimes we just chat. I have gained a lot from talking to other Soldiers that I may not necessarily know.”

McMinn, while not officially assigned to the 1/124th outside of the deployment, has gained a solid reputation as being reliable and is seen to bring great value to the regiment and battalion.

“Sgt. McMinn is one of the best assets, she goes outside of her assigned duties in the S-2 and helps everyone out,” said 1st Lt. Shannon McGuire, 1/124th Battalion S-1. “Her artistic abilities emulate her as a person, bright and happy.”

The 1/124th Infantry Regiment is deploying overseas to support military operations. Their time at Fort Bliss has been in a training and validation capacity to ensure mission readiness. The unit will deploy to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility, under the 29th Infantry Division supporting Operation Spartan Shield for a year.
