On Wednesday morning, officials with Immunize El Paso announced that they are now offering flu shots at each of their clinics on an appointment and walk-in basis.
In advance of the 2020-2021 influenza season, Immunize El Paso wants to encourage people to get their annual flu vaccine without delay this year.
“Every year, thousands of people contract the flu needlessly because they simply didn’t get a flu shot,” said Dusty Warden, Director of Operations for Immunize El Paso. “This year, our goal is to make sure that doesn’t happen.”
The non-profit is also working with area employers and schools to vaccinate essential employees throughout the region.
Officials say that flu shots have demonstrated to be a safe, effective way to prevent thousands of flu cases as well as deaths in Texas.
“Furthermore, with healthcare professionals and facilities strained by the COVID-19 pandemic, a reduction of inpatient hospitalizations, especially for vaccine-preventable diseases like influenza, is a crucial step in managing the quality of healthcare in our community. Increased uptake in influenza immunization will drop the number of flu cases, hospitalizations, and deaths significantly,” IEP officials added.
The CDC recommends flu vaccines for everyone six months and older, including pregnant women, children, teens, adults, and seniors. IZEP now has unique formulations for patients over 65 and individuals suffering from egg allergies.
Getting a flu shot has now gone contactless – anyone can easily schedule their appointment and upload their health insurance documents by clicking here.
