Fort Bliss – The 2-501 General Support Aviation Battalion of the 1st Armored Division based at Fort Bliss will send a contingent of helicopters and personnel at the direction of US Northern Command to Fort Hood.

“The 1AD Combat Aviation Brigade, ‘Iron Eagles’ train to be ready for any mission, any time, any place. Whether the call is to deploy to a combat zone, or serve our fellow citizens here at home, we are ready,” 1AD CAB Commander, Col. Geoffrey A. Whittenberg stated.

The unit was placed on short notice to deploy and be prepared to support civil authorities in response to Hurricane Laura if requested by FEMA.

2-501 GSAB will bring more than 150 personnel and eight UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters for lift missions, medical evacuations, and maintenance.

“Providing humanitarian relief in the United States and around the world is an essential part of the United States Army, Active Duty, National Guard, and Reserves,” post officials added.
