The UTEP women’s tennis team will head to Las Cruces, N.M. for its second tournament of the fall season. The Miners will take part in the annual NM State Aggie Invitational held Sept. 23-25 at the NM State Tennis Center.
NM State will be hosting Grand Canyon, Tarleton State, New Mexico, UT-Permian Basin and Western New Mexico in a multiple bracket event that will feature both doubles and singles.
Senior Daphne Visscher, junior Lois Wagenvoort and sophomores Raven Bennett and Maria Paula Medina will be making the trip to represent the Orange and Blue.
Doubles action will begin on Friday at 9 a.m. as Medina and Bennett pair up to face Grand Canyon’s duo of seniors Lana Rinaldi and Marie Deleval in the Crimson Flight Doubles bracket. In the White Flight Doubles bracket, the usual pairing of Visscher and Wagenvoort will take on Tarleton State juniors Ashleigh Elward and Erika Richarme.
In singles, Wagenvoort will partake in the Crimson Singles Flight in a matchup against New Mexico’s Cassie Chung, a freshman from Vancouver, Canada while Visscher and Medina will both see action in the White Singles Flight bracket. Visscher will battle it out versus TSU’s Richarme for the second time in the tournament and Medina will go against Andrea Villalobos, a sophomore from Chihuahua, Mexico.
Bennett will be part of the Gold Singles Flight bracket, facing Tori Simmons, a freshman from TSU.
Last weekend, UTEP travelled No. 101 Vivienne Kulicke and newcomers Milou Pietersz and Sophia Intert to the Midland Invitational, where the Miners finished out the opening weekend with a 2-1 record in doubles and a 5-2 mark in singles.
