The Franklin High School community celebrated Family Volunteer Day Saturday beautifying their courtyard area to make it more inviting to students and encourage them to stay on campus at lunchtime.
The beautification project is being funded in part by a Disney and generationOn grant written by freshman Eleanor Schoenbrun.
“We will be painting and beautifying the courtyard to appeal to all students from all cultures and backgrounds,” Schoenbrun said. “The art department had students design the artwork, plants will be installed, picnic tables and umbrellas donated by the PTSA will be assembled and placed. The area will become student friendly.”
Eleanor, who has earned national recognition for her involvement in volunteering and service projects, is on the generationOn National Youth Advisory Council.
“I am humbled to be able to make this impact on my school and help others understand that we can all share a commonplace among our peers,” she said.
