Franklin High cadet receives Air Force JROTC scholarship

Franklin High Cadet Col. Angel Gato is among 100 senior cadets selected nationwide from among nearly 1,000 Air Force JROTC units to receive the full-ride J-100 AFJROTC scholarship.

Gato was surprised Monday with the news. Cadets will go through AFROTC program at the university and be commissioned officers upon graduation.

“In terms of AFJROTC service, he has been the #1 cadet for each year group culminating this year with his selection as squadron commander where he has performed brilliantly in the face of the disruptions caused by COVID-19,” said Maj. (Ret) Todd Parsont, AFJROTC instructor.

Gato plans to attend New Mexico State University in the fall.
