Franklin to Re-Open, Stanton Street to close as Streetcar Utility Work Continues

As crews continue laying rail for the El Paso Streetcar project on Oregon Street, utility relocation work continues elsewhere along the route requiring the following street closures and lane restrictions, many of which begin after the Independence Day weekend.

Beginning on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, Stanton Street is scheduled to close to thru traffic between Franklin Avenue and Missouri Avenue. This closure is expected to last for approximately four weeks. Franklin Avenue, which is presently closed, will once again be open but reduced to one lane at Stanton Street.

Additionally, motorists should expect lane closures on Franklin Avenue between Santa Fe Street and Oregon Street and between Mesa Street and Stanton Street.

Stanton Street will be closed to thru traffic between Cincinnati Avenue and Mississippi Avenue. Baltimore Drive will be closed to thru traffic between Kansas Street and Mesa Street. An exact date for these closures has not been announced.

This closure, which is necessary to allow crews to relocate underground utilities in the intersection of Stanton and Baltimore, is expected to last approximately three weeks.

El Paso Street will also be reduced to one northbound lane at Father Rahm Avenue. This closure, which is expected to last for approximately four weeks is necessary to allow crews to safely install underground storm drain lines along Father Rahm Avenue.

Additionally, one northbound lane of Santa Fe Street will be closed to traffic between Main Drive and Franklin Avenue. Main will be closed to all traffic at Franklin at this time. These closures are expected to last approximately 2-3 weeks.

Also beginning on Wednesday, lane restrictions will be in place on Oregon Street between Missouri Avenue and Franklin Avenue. This closure will last approximately one week as crews relocate waste water lines.

Oregon Street remains reduced to a single northbound lane between Schuster Avenue and University Avenue as crews continue removing asphalt in preparation to begin laying rail in that section of street. The closure in this work zone is expected to last through September.

It also remains reduced to a single northbound lane between University Avenue and Glory Road thru mid-August. Work is underway laying rail at this location. The closure in this work zone is expected to last thru mid-August.
