Franklin Teacher Nominated for National Educator Award

Franklin High School English teacher Keithley Stanley has been nominated to receive the 2016-17 national LifeChanger of the Year Award, officials with the foundation that issues the award announced this week.

The award recognizes the very best K-12 public- and private-school educators across the United States, singling out those who have made a difference in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence, positive influence and leadership.

Stanley was nominated by Franklin Principal Carla Gasway. Her nomination profile touts her involvement in EPISD’s Teacher Advisory Team, as well as her role in the Junior League of El Paso and the Sparkle and Shine Christmas Fair.

“She has a deep understanding of students’ personal issues and works with them to help them accomplish more than they believe they can,” Gasway said. “She makes a lifelong impact on these students by being an adult who believes in them and cares about them.”

Winners will be selected based on the following criteria:

• A proven ability to make a beneficial difference in the lives of students

• An ability to positively add to the development of the school’s atmosphere

• Is involved in leadership activities at the school and/or community level

• A demonstrative record of excellent performance at the professional level

• A commitment to producing a nurturing atmosphere

If selected, Stanley could win up to $10,000, which is split between the educator and his/her school. The National Life Group Foundation awards 15 individual cash prizes to educators, plus a 16th award called the National Spirit Award.

Winners will be announced in the spring.
