Free workshop for teenage entrepreneurs set for Saturday

Workforce Solutions Borderplex is hosting a free entrepreneurship workshop for teens this Saturday, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the Downtown Employment Workforce Center located at 300 East Main in Downtown El Paso.

The workshop will feature Eli Velasquez, Director of Venture Development with Texas Tech University, who will teach teens how to start up their own businesses, including steps for concepts and an introduction to the key principles from the revolutionary lean startup model.

“The Lean Startup concept takes everything we know about how to start a business, and flips it on its head. It’s a model that is being used by leading universities like Stanford, and implemented in startups all across the globe,” said Eli Velasquez, Director of Venture Development for Texas Tech.

The free workshop is targeted for high school students who want to compete in the upcoming state recognized, 7th Annual STEM Challenge Business Competition sponsored by the Hospitals of Providence.

“The STEM Challenge is the perfect program to reinforce this workshop, as high school students can be taught early on how to avoid the pitfalls of starting a new business using the Lean Startup principles,” added Velasquez.

To RSVP for the free workshop please contact Joseph Sapien, STEM Lead for Workforce Solutions Borderplex at
