Gallery: Families, Friends, Walmart associates gather at Grand Candela Memorial to honor victims

Early Monday morning, one year to the day that the tragic events of August 3rd unfolded, the Grand Candela Memorial in the parking lot of the Cielo Vista Walmart hosted family, friends and employees seeking to honor the 23 victims of the shooting.

The procession began early, as visitors – sometimes in pairs, some in larger groups – made their way to the gleaming structure overlooking the bustling city below.

A few hundred feet away, another group gathered at the original memorial site behind the Walmart, after walking from Ponder Park.  Border Network for Human Rights’ event –  ‘El Paso Firme’ – had attendees holding crosses, singers and speakers including Bishop Mark Seitz and others, and released doves.

Our very own Andres Acosta was there, we bring you his view of the solemn visitation via this gallery to honor those lost on this day, one year ago.
