Students and staff from throughout the Jefferson feeder pattern whose families were impacted financially by the pandemic got a little help from an anonymous donor on Wednesday.
Thanks to the work of the Jefferson/Silva graduation coach, student council, football team and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the school was able to secure boxes of new clothing, personal protection equipment and even school supplies that were made available to any student or employee who may need them.
“This is the second time we have received this type of donation from a generous donor,” said Student Activities Manager Angelica Lechuga, noting that the donor wished to remain anonymous.
“This donor has been very generous and has indicated that if there is further need, that more items will be donated. We are so thankful to have someone be a tremendous partner to our students and staff.”
On Wednesday, the members of the student organizations involved organized a pick-up event for students and employees from throughout the South Side. Students and employees are able to come and pick-up clothing and supplies, no questions asked.
Lechuga said the drive originally targeted the schools’ homeless populations, but that it soon became apparent that the need was greater – especially after the pandemic.
“Many of our families and even our employees have a parent or a spouse who lost their job,” she said. “That’s a big hit on their income, and we hope this help provides a little relief to them.”
