The El Paso Coyotes put up a good fight, but just couldn’t overcome the deficit, eventually losing to the Soles de Sonora 11-10 in a fierce arena soccer battle, in front of a jam-packed crowd at the El Paso County Coliseum.
Amid the defeat, midfielder Hugo Puentes stepped up for the Coyotes, scoring three goals. Sonora, now 5-6, was guided by standout forward Franck Tayou, who scored three times, boosting his league-leading goal total to 34.
With the loss, the Coyotes also gave up their hold on second place in the Southwest Division of the Major Arena Soccer League, moving the Soles into the No. 2 spot behind division leader Monterrey Flash, who boast an unblemished 11-0 record.
El Paso, now 5-7, moves into third place after dropping five straight games.
