GECU Presents: Miner Madness – Who Takes the Title? ’91-’92 Miners vs ’09-’10 Miners

The 1991-92 Miners (27-7) take on the 2009-10 Miners (26-7) in GECU’s Miner Madness, the mythical “championship game” to determine which is the second-best team in UTEP history behind the 1966 national champs.

Analysis: Both squads boast powerful, physical front lines.  The 1991-92 team has two seniors at the top of their game in Marlon Maxey and David Van Dyke.  The 2009-10 Miners counter with Arnett Moultrie and a dominating Derrick Caracter.

One thing to watch for is a distinct size advantage in the backcourt for the 2009-10 team.  But with Eddie Rivera and Prince Stewart, the 1991-92 Sweet 16 squad has a couple of starting guards that are as savvy as they come.

Off the bench, the 2009-10 Miners bring in Claude Britten, Christian Polk, Wayne Portalatin and Myron Strong.  The 1991-92 Miners have Gym Bice, Ralph Davis and Roy Howard in reserve.

This would be a great matchup, but you can’t dismiss the big-game accumen of the ’91-92 Miners.  UTEPMiners.com Pick: 1991-92 Miners

Review the matchups, then go to UTEP men’s basketball Twitter Monday and vote for who you think would win!

Thank you to everyone who has voted over the last week and a half.  We hope this has brought a little joy to your lives in this year without March Madness.
