El Pasoans can spend Labor Day weekend with hot rods and rousing rock at the El Paso County Coliseum, with the Original Great American Rockabilly Riot.
The event will take over the Coliseum, located at 4100 East Paisano, starting at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, September 1-2 and will feature a variety of rockabilly performers; a 1950s-themed pin-up girl contest and pageant; live tattooing; food, jewelry, clothing and a variety of vendors; a car show with hot rods, custom motorcycles and classic cars; and an auto swap meet.
Performers for the celebration include headliners Voodoo Glow Skulls and Dale Watson, as well as Rockabilly Strangers, Los Chucanos, Sandbox Bullies, Reno Divorce, Sorry About Your Sister, Pope Paul and the Illegals, Ian Rosewood, Radio La Chusma, Bobby Rosales and the Premiers, Kitty Rose and the Rattlers and others.
In its seventh year, the Original Great American Rockabilly Riot evolved from a local annual hot rod show, where car and music lovers would gather at The Original Great American Land and Cattle Co. restaurant, hence the name.
Tickets for the event are $15 each day and $25 for a two-day pass, plus fees, and are available at the El Paso County Coliseum Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 800-745-3000 and online, ages 12 and under get in free.
