The Fresno Grizzlies piled up 16 hits Monday and beat the El Paso Chihuahuas 11-2. The 16 hits matched the Chihuahuas season high for hits allowed.
Fresno had seven batters or more come to bat in each of the first three innings and built a 10-2 lead before the fourth. Eight of nine starting Grizzlies had at least one hit.
Brett Nicholas went 2-for-4 with a double and has reached base in nine straight games. Eric Yardley pitched a scoreless seventh inning, his second scoreless outing in as many days after returning from Double-A San Antonio.
Diego Goris threw a scoreless eighth inning in his second pitching appearance of the season. The infielder has now pitched four times professionally and hasn’t allowed any runs.
El Paso’s error in the second inning was only the second in the Chihuahuas last eight games.
