Officials with the Housing Authority of the City of El Paso (HACEP) and Envolve Communities announced Wednesday the availability of affordable housing at Sun Plaza, the newly renovated residential high rise that towers above the Magoffin Historic District.
“We are proud to offer Sun Plaza as a viable housing option to applicants who are looking for a clean, safe and affordable home that is located in the heart of El Paso,” says Perla Gardea, regional property manager for Envolve Communities.
“Sun Plaza has been traditionally known as public housing, but through HACEP’s revitalization effort, this community has been completely transformed. In addition to offering affordable housing to elderly and those with special, physical needs, we can now take applications from individuals who meet the financial qualifications.”
Envolve Communities LLC, part of the Envolve Client Services Group, was selected by HACEP to manage Sun Plaza. Officials share that Envolve is one of the largest multi-family affordable and workforce housing property owners, managers, and redevelopers in the United States.
Sun Plaza, originally built in 1966, is a high-rise affordable housing residential community with 330 apartment units – one bedroom and studio-style – located at 1221 E. San Antonio Avenue, at the corner of Cotton Street.
Completely renovated through HACEP’s Rental Assistance Demonstration, officials say that Sun Plaza now offers newly renovated, energy-efficient, centrally located affordable living to prospective residents.
“Sun Plaza continues to offer affordable housing for persons with special, physical needs and the elderly (typically 62 years and older) but can now offer housing to the general public based on financial need,” officials added.
Applicants who are interested in calling Sun Plaza ‘home’ are asked to visit the community at 1221 E. San Antonio, to submit a pre-application.
Property management staff at Sun Plaza will be available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for assistance and on Saturday’s with an appointment. More information can also be found at www.SunPlazaTX.com.
