IBF Champion Jennifer Han with the punch on challenger Calista Silgado during title night at the ballpark
World Featherweight Champion, Jennifer Han of El Paso, will defend her IBF Crown against mandatory challenger, Lilian Martinez, of the Dominican Republic, on Saturday, October 15th, at UTEP’s Don Haskins Center.
The Han vs Martinez, World Featherweight Championship will be one of seven scheduled fights on a card that starts at 7:30 pm. The event is being promoted by Leija Battah Promotions and is sponsored by Ruibal’s Plants of Texas.
Several up-and-coming local stars, to be announced, will fight on the undercard.
Both Han and Martinez are scheduled to be officially introduced at a Press Conference in El Paso, next Tuesday, September 27. Tickets, priced at $25, $35, $50 & $100 (VIP), will go ON SALE to the public at 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 28 at the UTEP Ticket Center and all TicketMaster Outlets, including online at ticketmaster.com.
For Han, it will be the second defense of her World Featherweight title. She last defended it successfully on April 29, 2016 at the Southwestern University Ballpark, where she drew over 5,000 fans. For Han, it’s back to business and making El Paso fight fans proud.
“I really love fighting in El Paso, before my many fans, family and friends,” said Han, El Paso’s first and only World Boxing Champion. “To have an opportunity to come back and put on a show for all those who have supported me, has me very excited to be back in the ring. I had been dealing with a stress fracture in my hip over the Summer, but I’m 100% now and really excited to get back in the ring.”
Han will be facing a very tough challenge in the mandatory challenger Martinez, a veteran of 25 fights. But as she sees it, they are all tough when seeking a title. “Everyone steps up their game when challenging for a world title,” Han continued. “I fully expect and have prepared for a difficult fight from Lilian Martinez, as I do from everyone.”
