IBF World Featherweight Champion Jennifer Han throws a punch at challenger Calista Silgado
Jennifer Han Became El Paso first World Champion in 2015 when she successful defeated Helen Joseph of Ghana Nigeria in a 10 round bout at the down Haskins Center September 19, 2015.
As a result of this amazing achievement Commissioner Andrew Haggerty petitioned a resolution to recognize Jennifer Han and her accomplishment.
She was awarded a proclamation October 5, 2015 recognizing that September 19 would be known as “Jennifer Han Day”.
The State of Texas County of El Paso } Know All Men By These Presents: WHEREAS, on September 19, 2015, Jennifer Han brought a dream to reality by becoming El Paso’s first-ever World Champion Boxer when, by unanimous decision, she won the International Boxing Federation (IBF) World Featherweight Championship Title; and,
WHEREAS, years of training, along with a resolute determination, allowed Jennifer to control the world championship match from the opening bell until the end of the tenth round as reflected in the judge’s scores of 97- 92, 98-92 and 98-91; and,
WHEREAS, achievements leading to her championship match include numerous amateur titles and accomplishments such as six times National Boxing Champion, three time Best Boxer in USA, International Kickboxing Federation (IKF) World Champion and numerous other titles, a 5th degree Black belt in Korean Martial Arts Hoi Jeon Moo Sool, Hap Ki Do, Kickboxing and a 3rd degree Black belt in Tae Kwon Do; and,
WHEREAS, after completing a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Kinesiology in 2007 at UTEP and turning pro in 2009, Jennifer has become the current IBF Intercontinental Featherweight Champion and, as of September 19, 2015 the IBF WORLD Featherweight Boxing Champion.
She also coached the 2012 Jr. Olympic Men’s Team in Russia for an International tournament; and, WHEREAS, Jennifer’s unique focus, dedication and determination has allowed her to set and achieve extraordinary goals, not only in boxing, but in the areas of martial arts and academics.
Her values, attitude and behavior make Jennifer a role model that others admire and should strive to emulate. She is commended for her achievement and for the pride she has brought to her family, friends and to the people of El Paso County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the El Paso County Judge and Commissioners’ Court that September 19th be designated as: “Jennifer Han Day” in El Paso County, Texas.
