Horror Movie Icon ‘Jason’ headed to El Paso on Friday

El Paso horror aficionados are in for a treat, as the original ‘Jason’ is coming to the Borderland, and so is his band.

Ari Lehman, who portrayed Jason Voorhees in the original Friday the 13th, is coming to Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Montecillo on Friday August 5th in honor of the film’s 36th anniversary.

jason 3“I can’t wait for people to meet and hear from Ari Lehman,” said Robert Saucedo, Programming Director for Triple Tap Ventures LLC, the owner and operator of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema locations in El Paso, Houston, and Lubbock.

Lehman will perform with his band, First Jason, at 9:30 pm at Alamo Drafthouse’s Glass Half Full and then host a screening of the film at 10:30. He will also be available for questions after the movie.

“Whenever people can hear about the making of a movie from someone who was there, it really helps cultivate a greater appreciation for the film itself. Plus, this character went on to become a major cultural icon, and Ari was there for the very beginning,” Saucedo added.

Jason Voorhees’ death led to 12 slasher films dedicated to the character, a crossover film, a TV show, novels, comic books, and created a widely recognized horror symbol. Tickets to the screening can be purchased here.

Friday the 13th opened in US theaters on May 9, 1980.
