Hospitals of Providence East Campus Receives “A” for Patient Safety in Spring 2018

Officials with the Hospitals of Providence announced Tuesday that their East Campus earned a grade “A” in a recent national safety study conducted by Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit healthcare ratings organization.

“We are proud to see a grade “A” for the 12th consecutive scoring period from Leapfrog,” said Monica Vargas-Mahar, CEO of The Hospitals of Providence East Campus and Market COO for The Hospitals of Providence. “We strive to continually improve our performance in clinical care and patient satisfaction. It’s gratifying to see independent recognition of those efforts and a true testament to our staff that they are committed to providing our patients with the safe, quality care they deserve.”

As part of the national safety study, Leapfrog Group scores hospitals on how safe they keep their patients from errors, injuries, accidents and infections.  Scores are graded on a scale from A – F, based on 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data.

“Leapfrog is considered the gold standard for measuring patient care, and we are pleased to see East Campus well-represented among the top-performing U.S. hospitals,” said Vargas-Mahar.  “Recognition of this sort does not happen by chance. It is possible only through the dedication and tireless work of our nurses, physicians, and ancillary staff who treat our patients as though they were family.”

The Hospitals of Providence East Campus was among 750 hospitals nationally and only one in El Paso to be awarded an ‘A’ for efforts in protecting patients and meeting high safety standards.

Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades are updated every spring and fall following assessments of more than 2,500 hospitals across the country.
