Monica Vargas-Mahar, CEO of The Hospitals of Providence East Campus, has been appointed by The American Hospital Association (AHA) to its Carolyn Boone Lewis Equity of Care Award Committee.

The Carolyn Boone Lewis Equity of Care Award Committee honors hospitals whose demonstrated strategies and outcomes advance work of equity and support the goals of the National Call to Action to Eliminate Health Care Disparities.
Vargas-Mahar has served as CEO at The Hospitals of Providence East Campus since 2018. She joined The Hospitals of Providence in 2001 and has served in numerous leadership capacities to include CEO of The Hospitals of Providence Sierra Campus.
Vargas-Mahar also serves as the Vice-Chair of the National Association of Latino Healthcare Executives. She is also a board member of the United Way of Greater El Paso, Kids Excel El Paso, Texas Hospital Association Council on Policy Development, Loretto Academy Board, Texas Lyceum, El Paso Community College Foundation and the Trinity Healthcare Administration Board.
Vargas-Mahar received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Loyola Marymount University and her Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration from Trinity University.
This appointment is a one-year term beginning January 1, 2021.
