Hueco Tanks State Park closes out 2018 with a great schedule of hikes, bird watching, and much more.
To get to the park, take Montana Avenue (U.S. Highway 62-180) all the way into the Hueco Mountains then turn left on Ranch Road 2775 (where the UFO building is). Follow the road until it ends at the park.
There is an annual orientation program for visitors not participating in the events and looking to walk around the park on their own. Bicycles permitted only on designated paved areas.
Pets allowed only in the campground and picnicking areas, not on the trails.
Women Hikes | Saturday, December 8th, 2018 | Hueco Tanks State Park and Historic Site | 9:00 A.M.
Join us for a woman hike at Hueco Tanks, explore the site with a female ranger or volunteer and learn more about best hiking practices in the Chihuahuan Desert. This tour is open to women with all levels of experience and offers breathtaking view of El Paso and the surrounding mountains. Hike will be limited to 25 participants. Join a Park Ranger and participate in nature programs. Participants will have the opportunity to learn and discover the wonders of the desert as we identify plants, animals, and the history of Hueco Tanks State Park and Historic Site. Critters of the Night | Thursday, December 13th, 2018 | Hueco Tanks State Park and Historic Site 7:00 P.M.
Bring the whole family and explore Hueco Tanks State Park and Historic Site in the dark to learn about our nocturnal critters! We will keep an ear & eye out for different Critters. Please bring flashlights and water bottles and wear closed-toe shoes. Gates will close promptly at 6:30 P.M. Please register to secure your spot as space is limited to the first 15 participants. Holiday Camp Out at Hueco Tanks | Friday & Saturday, Dec 21st, & 22nd, 2018 | 5:30 P.M. to 12:00 PM next day
We will be hosting a Holiday Overnight Family Campout filled with fun activities, games, and stories. Join park rangers & guest presenters to learn about life on the trail during the old cowboy days, sample some Dutch oven cooking, listen to stories, and roast marshmallows. You can even try your hand at some good ole fashioned archery. Come out and join us!
**Due to limited capacity, reservations for the campout are required. Reservations should be made by calling the Park at 915-857-1135 before December 18, 2018. Space limited to the first 15 families with a maximum of six people per family. Everyone should arrive no later than 5:30pm.
***All participants must provide their own camping supplies, toiletries, food for dinner and breakfast (gas or propane grills only), and drinks (No Alcohol). Please make sure to bring plenty of water, sunscreen and bug spray, and weather appropriate clothing. The cost is $9 per adult ages 13 and over and $2 per child ages 5 to 12
Birding Tour | TBD | Hueco Tanks State Park and Historic Site | 8:00 A.M.
Hueco Tanks State Park & Historic Site is visited by over 200+ different species of birds throughout the year and this is your chance to see some of them! Whether you are a birder or just curious how to tell one bird from the other, this tour is for you. Tour leave from the Park’s Interpretive Center at 8:00 a.m.
Things to bring: Water, binoculars, camera, bird guide / ID book, good hiking shoes, and enthusiasm! Tour is limited to 10 participants and reservations are required. The cost is $ 9 per adult 13 and above and $2 per child ages 5-12 To reserve a spot on the tour, please call (915) 857-1135
