‘Ice’ Miners Drop the Puck for 2016-17 Home Opener Friday Night

For the first time this season, the UTEP Miners (5-1) play host to the newly formed ACHA club team the Grand Canyon University Antelopes (1-5) tonight in their season home opener at 7:30pm. It will be the first meeting for both teams.

After a week off the Miners are ready to get back in action. Following their last road series, Sophomore Lukas Znosko leads the team with 8 goals going into this weekend.

The Miners and the Lopes will be back on Saturday for Game 2 at 7:30pm.

The 2016-17 season campaign adds several new teams to the Miners schedule including, North Texas, University of Texas, Grand Canyon University, and Northern Arizona University.

Along with the newest additions the Miners will welcome back to the El Paso County Events Center Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech, and the University of New Mexico.

The Texas Collegiate Hockey Conference (TCHC) is a conference within the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Western Division 2 region where there are 8 teams from two divisions; the North and South Divisions.

These two divisions then compete with each other in order to proceed to the final round which is the play-offs to determine the winner of the hockey tournament.

The North Division consists of Texas Tech University, Dallas Baptist University, Texas Christian University (TCU) and University of North Texas (UNT). The South Division consists of the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), Texas State University, Texas A&M, University of Texas at Austin.
