Thursday morning, officials with IDEA Public Schools in El Paso celebrated the groundbreaking of their newest campus, IDEA Mesquite Hills Academy and College Preparatory, with a virtual ceremony.
“Over the past three years, IDEA El Paso has grown to eight schools serving 3,700 students,” says Dr. Ernesto Cantu, Executive Director of IDEA Public Schools in El Paso. “I’m proud to add this new campus to the IDEA El Paso team and family, and I’m excited for the effect IDEA Mesquite Hills will have on the El Paso community.”
The new campus, located at 11881 Dyer Street and will serve students in grades Pre-K through first and sixth grade. The campus will add a new grade level each year until it is a fully scaled Pre-K through 12th grade campus.
The campus will be led by Griselda Lopez, Founding Principal of IDEA Mesquite Hills Academy, and Daniel Gomez, Founding Principal of IDEA Mesquite Hills College Prep.
Applications are now open for the 2021-2022 school year. Parents can apply for IDEA Mesquite Hills and all IDEA El Paso schools via the IDEA website.
After applying, a random lottery will be held on February 20, 2021 to determine which students will fill spots available at each IDEA school.
Students who are not randomly selected to attend IDEA will be placed on a wait list, and the order of the wait list will be randomly determined. The applications of students on the wait list will remain on file for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year.
If a spot becomes available, students will be selected from the wait list, and parents will be notified of their selection and informed of next steps.
