IDEA Public Schools in El Paso is excited to partner with Junior League of El Paso Inc. in hosting a “Shoe and Sock” drive for campuses to provide donations for migrant workers in need during this holiday season.
Students, staff and families on campus will collect new or gently used shoes and socks in the hopes of collecting 1,000 pairs.
Junior League will have a pickup day at IDEA Rio Vista on Thursday, December 15 at 9 a.m., before the students leave for the holiday break.
“Our mission is to always find ways to support our community and we want our students involved in that process,” said Yanira Aguilar, Regional Director of Operations of IDEA El Paso. “In El Paso, we have many migrant workers that seek work here and we want to support by providing what may seem as a basic need but can help significantly. It’s important for our youth to begin community service at an early age so they learn firsthand that they can make a difference in someone’s life that may not have the same opportunities we take for granted.”
The Junior League truck will stop by IDEA Rio Vista this Friday to pick up the shoes and socks collected by all campuses. A representative from the Junior League, an IDEA staff member and students will be available for interviews. IDEA Public Schools is still taking donations from the public until pickup day.
