(UTEP) It’s that time of year, Miner fans! Basketball season has started and the holidays are right around the corner.
Socks are the most requested item by homeless shelters across the country, so please join UTEP’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for their first ever sock drive on Nov. 16 (UTEP MBB vs. Northern New Mexico College) and Nov. 17 (UTEP WBB vs. NM State). UTEP wants the Don filled with not only basketball cheers but holiday cheer as well!
“We are excited to represent UTEP again and welcome all of our fans back to the Don,” UTEP men’s basketball junior and SAAC representative Tydus Verhoeven said. “This sock drive is a great way to do that and give back to the El Paso community at the same time.”
On Nov. 16-17, UTEP student-athletes from SAAC will be at both the men’s and women’s basketball games to collect NEW socks (all sizes). All donations will be given to those in need around El Paso. The men take on Northern New Mexico College on Tuesday at 7 p.m., while the women will battle NM State on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
“I am super excited about UTEP Athletics participation in the upcoming sock drive, and I want to encourage the El Paso community to join us in this small, yet big act of service for others in need,” UTEP softball senior and SAAC secretary Pate Cathey said. “A new pair of socks can go a long way when someone needs of a little comfort in their lives! I think this sock drive is a great way to bring the El Paso community out to support our men’s and women’s basketball teams, while also serving others and giving back to those in need!”
