Info: Area New Year’s Closures

What follows is a list of those offices that will be closed during the Christmas holiday season.  It will be updated as needed.

City of El Paso

In observance of the December holiday season, the following operational schedule changes will be made to allow city employees to celebrate the holidays.

  • City Hall and all administrative offices will be closed from Monday, December 24, through Tuesday, January 1, 2019.
  • City Hall and all administrative offices will reopen and resume regular business hours on Wednesday, January 2, 2019.

All other City operations will continue to provide services during this time frame.

El Paso County Offices

Monday, December 24, 2018 Christmas Eve

No Garbage and Recycling Collection on Christmas or New Year’s Day

In observance of Christmas and New Year’s Day, the Environmental Services Department (ESD) will not provide garbage and recycling pick up on Tuesday, December 25, and Tuesday, January 1.

Residents who normally have garbage/recycling picked up on Tuesdays will have their garbage picked up on Saturday, December 29, and Saturday, January 5. Normal collection schedule will resume the following day on Wednesday.

In addition, the Greater El Paso Landfill at 2300 Darrington Road will be closed on Christmas and New Year’s Day and will resume normal operating hours the following day.

The landfill is normally open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.


Free Christmas tree recycling

The Environmental Services Department (ESD) encourages residents to recycle their live Christmas trees for free, starting Wednesday, December 26, at all of the five Citizen Collection Stations (CCS).

Live Christmas trees are biodegradable, which means they can be reused or recycled for other purposes. ESD will turn the trees into mulch which will then be available to all ESD residential customers for free. Residents should remove all lights, decorations, tree stands etc. before dropping them off.

The Citizen Collection Stations will be closed Christmas day but will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, December 26. Normal operating hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. The sites are at the following locations:

  • 3510 Confederate
  • 1034 Pendale
  • 121 Atlantic
  • 4501 Hondo Pass
  • 2492 Harrison

Holiday Recyclables

Besides fresh trees, residents are also encouraged to recycle cardboard gift boxes, and holiday cards, all of which can be placed in the blue recycling bins. Materials that cannot be recycled include: metallic wrapping paper, bows, ribbons, and foam. These items should be place in the gray bin.

UTEP Winter Holiday Schedule to Start

The University will begin its winter holiday schedule on Friday, Dec. 21, 2018. The campus will be closed on Monday, Dec. 24, Tuesday, Dec. 25, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, 2019.

UTEP also will be closed Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The spring semester begins on Tuesday, Jan. 22.


El Paso Community College

Greater El Paso Landfill

Due to the upcoming Holidays, The Greater El Paso Landfill will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 25 and Tuesday, Jan. 1. They will resume normal business hours Wednesday, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.

Normal operating hours are Monday – Saturday, 7am to 4pm

TTUHSC El Paso Winter Closures

EL PASO, Texas – In observance of the upcoming winter break, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) will be closed Monday, Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 25, as well as Monday, Dec. 31 and Tuesday, Jan. 1.

This includes the Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso clinics.

The TTUHSC El Paso libraries will have limited hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) Friday, Dec. 21, and Friday, Dec. 28, and will resume normal hours of operation Wednesday, Jan. 2

Regular hours of operation for the campus and clinics will resume Wednesday, Jan. 2.


NM Museum of Space History and Theater Holiday Closures

The New Mexico Museum of Space History and New Horizons Dome Theater and Planetarium will close early at 1:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve and will be closed all day on Christmas Day in order for staff to enjoy the holiday with their families.

Except for the holiday closures, the museum is open Mondays and Wednesday through Sunday. The New Horizons Theater is showing The Mystery of the Christmas Star, Australia’s Great Wild North and Mysteries of China thru December 31st. In addition, live planetarium star shows are scheduled daily.
