Installation of School Zone Safety Flashers Begins Today

Beginning Monday, May 16, 2016, the City of El Paso Capital Improvement Department will start installing school zone flashers near Benito Martinez Elementary in East El Paso.

Once installed the school zone safety flashers will alert motorists of the school zones and draw attention to pedestrians and school zone speed limits near the campus located at 2640 Robert Wynn.

Appropriate signage will be place in throughout duration of the project. Construction should be completed in August 2016. The project schedule may be modified due to weather or other unforeseen events.

The work is a part of a Safe Routes to School project funded by the Texas Department of Transportation and the City of El Paso. When completed in summer 2017, the project will have provided several elementary schools with school zone safety flashers.

Campuses programmed for the school zone safety flashers are: Benito Martinez, Jane Hambric, Paul Moreno, Beall, Park, Dr. Nixon, Johnson, Lamar, Kohlberg, and Vilas.
