The River Cats took three of four in the series, handing El Paso its second consecutive series loss.
The Albuquerque Isotopes – the Colorado Rockies’ affiliate – shut out the El Paso Chihuahuas 5-0 Tuesday, handing El Paso its third shutout loss of the season.
Isotopes starter Ryan Carpenter tossed 7.2 innings, striking out six without walking a batter. It was the first meeting of the season between the Chihuahuas and Isotopes.
All five Isotopes runs came on RBI doubles, with two Albuquerque runs in the first, one in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
El Paso’s bullpen was excellent in the loss, as Andre Rienzo, Carlos Fisher, Kevin Quackenbush and Phil Maton all threw scoreless outings.
Jose Pirela went 3-for-4 and Rafael Ortega went 2-for-4 offensively for El Paso. Jamie Romak went 0-for-4, ending his 15-game hitting streak.
