Alamo Drafthouse East El Paso

Opens Thursday, June 2

Originally written over 20 years ago, writer/director David Cronenberg’s (THE FLY, A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE) latest body horror will leave you squirming in your seat in the best kind of way. In the not-so-distant future, humanity has evolved. Pain is nearly non-existent, surgery is the new sex, and our bodies have transformed and mutated to adapt to a new synthetic environment. Celebrity performance artist Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen, EASTERN PROMISES) and his partner, Caprice (Léa Seydoux, THE FRENCH DISPATCH), have made a name for themselves through public discovery and removal of Saul’s newly grown organs. Their vivisections soon embroil them with both a National Organ Registry agent (Kristen Stewart, SPENCER) and a mysterious group dedicated to shedding light on the next phase of human evolution.

KIDS CAMP: SPACE JAM
Alamo Drafthouse Montecillo and East El Paso

Friday, June 3 through Wednesday, June 8

Get ready to jam. If there was any possible way to make the Looney Tunes more incredible it would be to team them up with the greatest basketball player the world has ever known, Mr. Michael Jordan. The evil Swackhammer, owner of the amusement park planet Moron Mountain, is desperate for a new attraction, so he sends his henchmen, the Nerdlucks, to Looney Tune Land for some forcible recruitment. Bugs and the crew are far from excited and hatch a plan to challenge the diminutive Nerdlucks to a game of basketball to determine their fate. The Tunes think they have it in the bag until the Nerdlucks use their strange powers to steal the talents of Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Muggsy Bogues, Larry Johnson, and Shawn Bradley to transform themselves into the ultra-muscular, insanely tall, mega-basketball playing slam-dunking ultra team, The Monstars. So it’s up to our carrot chomping leader to recruit the only man than can save Tune-kind, Michael Jordan.

Taking pity on the woman (a humorously named Kate Bush), Roxy frees her, and Kate Bush immediately murders a group of girls on the beach. THE FILM SALON: DOUBLE INDEMNITY

Alamo Drafthouse Montecillo

Saturday, June 4, at 6 pm
The Film Salon was established in 2002 as a monthly screening and discussion series dedicated to the appreciation of classic and important films. Screenings include an introduction and post-screening discussion. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and stay afterward for comments and discussion.

Tell me, would you give up a nice racket selling life insurance for a dame with no regard for humanity? To Walter Neff, it wasn’t a decision he thought he’d have to make, but after meeting Phyllis Dietrichson, it’s the only thing he could do. A major breakthrough for emigré filmmaker Billy Wilder, DOUBLE INDEMNITY defines so much of what we think of when we think of film noir — the post-war cynicism, the style, the performances. Speaking of which, the central trio of Fred MacMurray, Edward G. Robinson and Barbara Stanwyck deliver some of their finest work, especially Stanwyck’s completely masterful turn.

HALLOWEEN (1978)

Alamo Drafthouse East El Paso

Tuesday, June 7, at 7:30 pm

Alamo Drafthouse Montecillo

Wednesday, June 8, at 7:30 pm
HALLOWEEN might not have resembled the “sophisticated” horror films of the 1970s, but the simplicity of the film’s story and production values allowed director John Carpenter to focus on staying one step ahead of the audience. From Dean Cundey’s flowing, blue-hued photography to Carpenter’s minimalist score to the blank, ominous mask of Michael Myers, nothing in this moody, terrifying film is misplaced.

JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION

Alamo Drafthouse Montecillo and East El Paso

Opens Thursday, June 9

Dinosaurs are running amok across the world, and it’s going to take three old fossils from a bygone era to set things straight – Drs. Alan Grant, Ian Malcolm, and Ellie Sattler. Yes, for the first time in nearly 30 years, Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, and Laura Dern (the original JURASSIC crew) are finally fighting dinosaurs together again. Four years after the disastrous events of JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM, humans are finding a way to make life work alongside their new, scaly neighbors. When this fragile balance is threatened, it’s up to Owen (Chris Pratt), Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard), Blue (the velociraptor), and all our old friends to save the day from a shadowy organization trying to exploit the dinos. You’d think after five other disasters they would just leave them alone, but we guess shadowy organizations never learn.

A STAR IS BORN BRUNCH (1954)

Alamo Drafthouse East El Paso

Saturday, June 11, at 10:45 am

Alamo Drafthouse Montecillo

Sunday, June 12, at 12:15 pm

One of the four iterations of A STAR IS BORN (among countless variations of the same story), George Cukor’s 1954 iteration stands a cut above the rest. Such a lofty statement can only be attributed to the singular brilliance of Judy Garland’s central performance and our collective knowledge of her own storied career. As Esther Blodgett, Garland takes the role of the rising ingenue amidst her partner Norman Maine’s (James Mason) personal and creative downfall. Levying the interpersonal drama with a cavalcade of show-stopping musical numbers, A STAR IS BORN cements itself as one of the great snapshots of stardom and the history of its own making. Presented with a 5-minute intermission. Order from our tasty brunch menu – Egg BLT, French Toast, or Breakfast Tacos – and pair with a brunch cocktail classic like Desert Spring Water or the Italian 75. THE FOG

Alamo Drafthouse East El Paso

Tuesday, June 14, at 7:15 pm

Alamo Drafthouse Montecillo

Wednesday, June 15, at 7:30 pm

In 1980, John Carpenter was under pressure. Where do you go after unleashing HALLOWEEN, the most ground-breaking horror movie since PSYCHO? Well, you go to Stonehenge with your girlfriend and producer, Debra Hill. You see some fog. You say, “Boy, I sure do like lighthouses and ghosts. Boats, too. Let’s make a movie!” And so they did. THE FOG is set during the centennial of an isolated coastal town with an evil secret. It stars lots of people who will make you happy. Jamie Lee Curtis! Adrienne Barbeau! Tom Atkins! Janet Leigh! And ghost pirates! Part 1940s Poverty Row spooker and part atmospheric 1970s shocker, THE FOG is a totally unique and genuinely frightening movie from a master at the top of his game. Imagine reading a musty issue of Charlton Comics’s GHOSTLY TALES in a lakeside cabin at the stroke of midnight while listening to the soundtrack from A CLOCKWORK ORANGE and you’re halfway there.

FANTASTIC FEST PRESENTS NEPTUNE FROST

Alamo Drafthouse East El Paso

Wednesday, June 15, at 7:15 pm

Multi-hyphenate, multidisciplinary artist Saul Williams brings his unique dynamism to this Afrofuturist vision, a sci-fi punk musical that’s a visually wondrous amalgamation of themes, ideas, and songs that Williams has explored in his work, notably his 2016 album MartyrLoserKing. Co-directed with his partner, the Rwandan-born artist Anisia Uzeyman, the film takes place amidst the hilltops of Burundi, where a collective of computer hackers emerges from within a coltan mining community, a result of the romance between a miner and an intersex runaway. Set between states of being—past and present, dream and waking life, colonized and free, male and female, memory and prescience—Neptune Frost is an invigorating and empowering direct download to the cerebral cortex and a call to reclaim technology for progressive political ends.
