Kids-n-Co Production of “Spark of Creation” set to Open Friday Night

There’s nothing to do at Uncle Stephen’s house. But when three kids find Uncle Stephen’s old play room, a new world comes to life where they find playmates in Raggedy Ann, an old Rocking Horse, a Jack-in-the-Box, and many other toys that Uncle Stephen played with when he was young. And then they start to sing and dance.

“Spark of Creation, A Celebration of the Works of Stephen Schwartz” revolves around three kids who are bored and stuck at their Uncle Stephen’s country house for the summer with no technology and nothing to do.

While exploring the house they find an old box of toys and decide to play them. As they begin to play, the old toys seem to come to life in front of their very eyes, not only sparking creation and imagination, but emotions they didn’t know they had.

It’s a colorful trip of nostalgia and whimsy using Stephen Schwartz’s catalog of varied music, including songs from “Godspell,” “Wicked,” “Enchanted,” “Pippin” and “Hunchback of Notre Dame.”

Under the direction of Anthony Michael Stokes, with musical direction by Ajith Kumar, and a team comprised of Arazelia Perez, Rachel Robins, Emily Shackelford and Isabella Alex Candelaria, the students have been guided in singing, dancing and acting as well as the etiquette and challenges that go into creating new musical show with live music.

With a major focus on character development and the physicality of becoming a role, come see the wonderful students transform before your eyes.

Kids-N-Co’s 2016 Summer Musical Theatre Camp production “Spark of Creation – A Celebration of the Works of Stephen Schwartz,” starts at 7 p.m. FridaySaturday, July 29-30, and at 7p.m. Sunday, July 31, at First Presbyterian Church of El Paso, 1340 Murchison.
